The John and Shirley Mauney
Scholarship Fund
Thanks to the generosity of the Southeast Texas Nursery Growers’ Association and its members, in the memory of our late Founding President John Mauney and his wife Shirley, a scholarship fund has been created to provide opportunities for young people interested in horticulture to obtain financial assistance at the college of their choice. Arrangements have been made with the Wharton County Community Foundation to accept tax deductible contributions to what is known as a “donor directed” fund for the specific purpose of providing scholarship funds for those interested in studying horticulture at the college level. The fund is managed by a professional money management firm, with scholarship grants controlled by the Southeast Texas Nursery Growers’ Association. Those interested in making a tax deductible contribution to the fund should make their checks payable to “Wharton County Community Foundation”, and note on the check, “For the John and Shirley Mauney Scholarship Fund.” Checks should be sent to the Wharton County Community Foundation, 102 North Washington, El Campo, TX 77437. Further information on the Foundation, as well as investment policy, can be obtained from the Foundation or from Gordon Sorrel at Texas Insurance and Financial Services, 1-800-541-9849. Application forms for scholarship grants may be found at the STNGA Web site (www.stnga.org) or from any member of the STNGA Board of Directors. Grants approved will be payable direct to the College or University the grantee is attending. A scholarship committee, appointed by the STNGA Board of Directors, with the guidance of Mrs. Shirley Mauney, will periodically review all applications for grants prior to the beginning of the requested semester. Questions on applications may be referred to any member of the STNGA Board of Directors. |
