Noteworthy among the traditions of the Southeast Nursery
Growers' Association is recognition: recognizing and applauding the
efforts of those whose efforts and examples have contributed to the growth
and success of the organization and the horticulture industry.
If I have seen farther, it is
because I have stood on the shoulders of giants

And so the Association has
established two Awards, given periodically to members who have
distinguished themselves in the tradition of long and outstanding service
to the association and/or the horticulture industry.
THE LARRY BURTON AWARD
Larry Burton, owner of El Kay Farms with his wife Kay, was a founding
member of the Association, its second President, long-time Board member
and Secretary. He worked tirelessly, unflinching in his convictions,
toward the growth, visibility, professionalism and positive impact of the
Association. Larry Burton succumbed to cancer in 1998, his wife Kay two
years later.

THE MARK LONGBOTHAM AWARD
Mark Longbotham, veteran grower, nursery professional and proponent of
extraordinary service to customer, colleague and friend, was a
representative of Kinney Bonded Warehouse and the first Affiliated member
chosen to serve as an Advisory Board Member for the Association. He was
known for his unqualified support of the organization and as a consummate
solver of all manner of growing and growing related problems ─ whether one happened to
be customer or not. Recurring heart problems ended Mark's life prematurely
in April of 1998.
